Published in AI and Ethics, this article explores how increasingly agentic AI systems require a rethinking of human agency, oversight, and responsibility through a relational framework for human–AI co-agency.
I’m pleased to share that my research article, “From Assistants to Agents: A Relational Framework for Human–AI Co-Agency,” has now been published online in AI and Ethics.
This paper addresses a central question of our time: as artificial intelligence systems evolve from assistive tools into increasingly agentic systems, how should we rethink human agency, delegated autonomy, oversight, and responsibility?
The article develops a relational framework for human–AI co-agency and argues that accountability must remain grounded in human and institutional governance, even when AI systems assume greater initiative in complex sociotechnical environments.
